The past few weeks have been busy, with plenty of leaks surrounding the upcoming Google Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold. While we’ve mostly seen a lot of information on the former, we’re closing this week with a big leak for the Pixel Fold, giving us what are possibly the cleanest renders of the device we’ve seen to date. Although there is no official word on when this device will make its debut, initial reports are that it will be shown during Google I/O 2023 on May 10th.

The newly leaked renderings are from Evan Blas, better known for his online personality evleaks on Twitter. Blass posted the renders on his personal Twitter account and the images are absolutely stunning. The renders are totally different from what we have seen in the past and could possibly be official renders used by Google for marketing purposes. Perhaps the first thing you notice is how sharp the images are, showing all the fine details of the phone.
The first image of the Pixel Fold shows it in its closed position, which only gives us a glimpse of the outer display, hinge, and related areas. But in the second image, we see a bit more when the phone has been unfolded, showing more detail of the hinge area and back. As we can see, the corners of the outer display are rounded and the hinge looks pretty slim. Of course, we won’t really know how thin or thick this handset is until we get official details, but according to an early report this device will measure 5.5in x 3.1in x 0.5in when closed.

The back of the smartphone is similar to newer Pixel devices, but differs slightly as the camera bar doesn’t go from edge to edge. Instead we get a long floating island that still looks very good and stand alone. Another thing we can see from the rendering is the Pixel Launcher and the Material You themed icons. Some details on the front display are blurred, no doubt to protect someone, but it doesn’t detract from the sheer beauty of the phone. While an official name for the color we’re seeing in the render hasn’t been announced yet, the color could be known as obsidian when it’s revealed. There will also be another color that could come as Chalk.
For the most part, this handset looks more incredible than previous renders and this is sure to excite more Pixel fans as the time for an official reveal approaches. As for the specs, we got a lot of details from Jon Prosser at Front page Tech, share that the Pixel Fold will use Google’s Tensor G2 processor paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The phone has two storage options with either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Both displays will be OLED and have a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, with the outer display measuring 5.8 inches with a 2092 x 1080 resolution, while the inner display will measure 7.6 inches and have a 2208 x 1840 resolution.
The device packs a triple camera setup on the rear with a 48-megapixel main camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and an f/3.05 aperture, and a 10 .8 megapixel ultrawide with an f/2.2 aperture. It will also have a 9.5 MP f/2.2 aperture front camera and an 8 MP f/2.0 aperture selfie camera on the inner display. As for pricing, the 256GB model is said to be priced at $1,799, while the 512GB model will cost $1,919. The Pixel Fold will also appear to have a pre-order promotion that includes a free Google Pixel Watch. Hopefully everything goes according to plan so we can officially showcase it on stage at Google I/O next month.
