Now, commentary has turned to whether the game is too close to traumatic real-life experiences and looks way too real when depicting them.
At a time when – often disturbing – police bodycam footage is essentially a separate genre of video content on social media, many believe it’s distasteful to release a hyper-realistic shooting game that depicts fairly accurate violence in a far-fetched way from almost avenger-like bombast of call of Duty.
While others just think it’s going to be a super cool immersive shooter.
The focus of discussion raged around a tweet cancel recording Creator Alexandre Spindle Representation of the game in action.
Streamer Trainwreck summed up the realism debate by noting that he feels uncomfortable about it – and such realism in shooter games should be heavily moderated.
Along with the hyperrealism debate, doubts about the game’s existence as, well, a game flourished:
A statement on the game’s official Twitter page addressed concerns following the video’s unveiling, stating: “As a French studio aimed at a global audience, the game is not engaged in any foreign policy and is not inspired by real events. The game will naturally avoid undesirable topics such as discrimination, racism, violence against women and minorities. The game will not have a biased or Manichaean view of crime and police violence. We also respect and understand people who may be disturbed by the game’s visuals. Art cannot fight against interpretation..”
As cancel recording heading towards a release date set at an undisclosed future location, it’s likely to spark further debate – A) whether it lives up to the original footage of a hyper-realistic and immersive police shooting game, or B) how far that realism stretches the debate “Taste”.
